Photographer In Conversation ‘Ghana Through The Lens’

In this talk, that I’m super excited to be part of, I’ll try to share with you my vision of photography and how I apprehend it, especially in a different cultural environment. I’ve always knew I had a thing with images, working primarily for a French film director… It’s actually quite late that I took possession of “Photography” as a medium of expression, favoring the story telling and the framing over the techniques. From my inspirations, doubts, and techniques to get closer to your subject, this presentation will focus on a range of photographs taken in Ghana. I’ll be happy to answer your questions as well, and any comments you may have. See you there!

Born in France, Anne Laure has been travelling through Africa for the last 10 years. She studied photography in Johannesburg in 2014. Since then, she carries on with her practice spontaneously. Photography is for her the combination of her love for unique moments, people and images. She settled in Accra, the capital of Ghana early 2019 and slowly started experimenting documentary, people and landscape photography. During the pandemic she created frames with local fabric (wax, Batik…) that try to compliment the images with the fabric patterns. Her witty eye allow her to reveal what lies behind with a certain ‘sense of humour’. In a way her photography is very organic. On instagram @chonblard_ Shop for limited edition frames @amalau_artwork The photographs of ANNE LAURE GUERET have a distinct humanistic and compassionate touch, whilst discretely revealing broader contextual social elements of daily life in Ghana. Her portraits result from a collaboration between sitter and photographer, a mutual trust and respect, often set up on the spur of the moment. Her photographs of the everyday are both insightful and witty, exploring overlooked details of the world around us. Gueret is a talented photographer, ‘an outsider’ with keen eye and a sharp mind! In Conversation will allow us to gaining valuable insight into her skilful practice and working methods. This will be a great livestream! Not to be missed!
